Call for Abstracts: SHARP/ISASH Symposium 2026
The 8th Safety and Health in Agricultural and Rural Populations (SHARP) Symposium, hosted by the Canadian Centre for Rural and Agricultural Health (CCRAH) in partnership with the International Society for Agricultural Safety and Health (ISASH) and the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA), invites abstract submissions on all aspects of agricultural and rural health, safety, and well-being. SHARP 2026 is an international symposium hosted at the University of Saskatchewan and will feature keynote speakers, podium sessions, poster sessions, networking events, and guided tours, focused on advancing health and safety for rural and agricultural populations.
Submissions will span research, education, policy and outreach and may address areas such as occupational, environmental, and community health and well-being, as well as research and knowledge translation efforts and innovations in agricultural and rural contexts. This includes a broad range of efforts and techniques aimed at reducing hazards and improving the safety and health of agricultural and rural populations. Student participation and submissions are strongly encouraged.
Proposals exploring both research and outreach activities will be considered:
- Research: Proposals across all areas of health, safety, wellness, and wellbeing of agricultural, occupational, rural, and remote communities, workers and people, including but not limited to: methods, surveillance, innovation development and testing, research translation, and evaluation of these activities.
- Outreach: Proposals describing agricultural and rural safety outreach and education programs, including but not limited to promotional efforts, rural and agricultural safety and public health policy, and evaluation of these activities.

All abstracts are peer-reviewed by the SHARP committee, the ISASH Professional Improvement Committee, or experts selected by the committees. The review applies the following criteria:

- Significance of the topic/problem to agricultural and rural health
- Innovation and novelty of concept, method, program or intervention
- Contribution to the science and/or practice in agricultural safety and health
- Technical quality of the abstract including: writing style, language, and clarity in describing the need, purpose, objectives, methods, program/project features, findings, conclusions, and practical field applications
