ISASH Treasurer. Member since 2006.
Why did you decide to join ISASH?
I had been appointed treasurer and felt that I could be more a part of the organization if I was actually a member. I have had a lifelong interest in agricultural safety and health. Prior to marrying Glen Hetzel in 2002, I (with my deceased first husband) had been involved in the day-to-day operation of a family-owned farm equipment dealership for over 35 years. I had served on the Board of the Virginia Equipment Dealers Association. Through these activities I became aware of the issues involved in farm safety, particularly those presented by the local Extension Safety Specialist. The relationships with the farm customers brought home the reality of farm safety as they told of their experiences and injuries.
What has been one of your most memorable experiences with ISASH?
Getting to personally know and work with many great folks from all over the world, and traveling across North America to the annual meeting. But MOST memorable has been the opportunity work side-by-side with my husband in an organization addressing agricultural safety and health.
What is one great piece of advice you’ve received in your career?
Never be too humble to accept a compliment. Smile and say “thank you.”
