Whereas it is agreed that the unique nature and characteristics of agriculture and the American farmer should be adquately represented and understood within the Department of Labor, particularly in its deliberations on standards affecting farmers and ranchers;

Whereas it is also agreed that there is positive need for an individual or individuals to assure that agriculture and its operation are properly understood;

Be it therefore resolved…

…that the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., request, by letter, that the Department of Labor fill such position(s) with personnel having a farm background, with agricultural engineering training, and having had leadership experience in agriculture and farm safety;

And, be it further resolved…

…that the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., recommend that the Department of Labor place greater reliance on the Advisory Committee on Agriculture and other outside counsel having expertise in agriculture and agricultural problems for the purpose of practical and reasonable agricultural safety standards;

Furthermore the Tractor and Machinery Committee of the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., urges all farm organizations to recognize the necessity of having agriculture represented and adequately understood within the Department of Labor and to submit a statement to the Department regarding their position;

And, be it further resolved…

…that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the appropriate individual or individuals in the farm organizations and in the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
